Description
This programme analyses some classic physics experiments relating to the properties of electrons. Using real demonstrations the classic experiments of J.J. Thompson are used to demonstrate how an e...lectron beam can be balanced by opposing electrostatic and magnetic fields. This enables the ratio of electronic charge to its mass to be determined. Using other demonstrations, we show that an electron moving in free space (no fields) travels in straight lines and possessess momentum. Finally, a modern mass spectrometer is used to show that neon gas is made up of atoms of three different masses - isotopes of neon.
