Description
The programme show how the great Russian chemist Mendeleev systematized much of this bewildering variety by means of his Periodic Table. The similarities between elements of the same group are demo...nstrated by showing the physical properties of the noble gases and the chemical reactions of the alkali metals. Trends across a period are shown and discussed. Also presented in the programme is the importance of chemical formulae in establishing the common characterisics of elements in the same group. Finally, the weaknesses of the Mendeleev system are illustrated before rearranging his Table to the modern Long Form of the Periodic Table. The programme has been designed to present chemical action and the periodic classification of elements with a fast paced visually dramatic and humorous style.
