Description
This programme is about the criteria which influence the choice of fuel and oxidiser for a rocket enine. Experiments are shown which demonstrate that the chemical reaction chosen must be highly exo...thermic, fast and make products which are gasses of low molecular mass. The reactions performed in the programme are: - dinitrogen tetroxide with aniline, - dinitrogen tetroxide with dimethylhydrazine, - flourine with hydrogen, - hydrogen peroxide with hydrazine. Bond energy calculations for the last two mentioned reactions are presented in detail, and the reactions are illustrated with film, specially shot slow motion sequence showing the hydrogen flourine explosion, and captured German war film on the first piloted rocket plane, the Messerschmitt 163
