Description
This programme was filmed in Jamaica just after Hurrican Gilbert had devastated the island. It features the work of marine scientists from the University of West Indies studying the effects of natu...ral disasters like hurricanes and human population (Kingston Harbour) on various ecosystems. Coral reefs, mangrove swamps and sea grass act together to protect tropical coastlines from effects of wind and waves and help bind together the fine sediments flowing in rivers towards the open sea. Effects of human disturbances such as sewage pollution and over fishing have serious consequences on tourism and the fishing industry.
