Description
A heartbeat from chaos -- A 25 minute documentary about the rythmic actions of the vertebrate heart and how these rhythms arise through efficient intercellular communication. The programme looks at... new research into electrical activity and fluid flow through the heart, and reveals that for a healthy person the rhythms of these crucial heart actions lie just this side of chaos. -- Gene hunting -- A 35 minute documentary explores some of the techniques and issues associated with research into the human genome and into genetic conditions such as Fragile-X, Huntingdon's Chorea and asthma. The role of the human genome project in genetic research, and some of the social and ethical issues which are emerging, form the backdrop to the programme and raise important issues for viewers to consider.
