Description
The aim of this programme is to aid students' understanding of biodiversity, structure and fuction of a tropical forest, and to advance three current ideas to explain how so many species of plants ...and animals can co-exist in such remarkable profusion. Filmed largely on Barro Colorado Island in Panama, it highlights the long term census of 250,000 trees in a 50 hectare plot at the centre of the island. BCI is the most studied tropical forest in the world and is administered by the Smithsonian Tropical Forest Institute.
