Description
This video is used to supplement tutorials at summer school. Band 1 is concerned with the various ways in which fish and aquatic mammals maintain their buoyancy in water. A historical cartoon seque...nce about archimedes explains the physical concept of buoyancy. In the remainder of the band, the presenter describes (with some demonstrations) how aquatic animals such as the sea horse, cuttlefish, herring, mackerel, dogfish and sperm whale achieve suitable buoyancy. Band 2 which was made for the original S324 Summer School video, is about thermoregulation. The first part is about 'Newborns' which deals with thermo-regulation in mouse pups, and the second part is about 'Desert Dwellers', thermo-regulation in camels in the desert.
