Description
Ecologists are making increased use of remote sensing from aircraft and satellites to monitor changes in vegetation on a global scale. Monitoring regrowth of tropical forests in Rondonia following ...deforestation and the botanical richness of the Pennine Dales are just two examples where satellite observations have been combined with ground surveys and geographical data bases to provide a new perspective on ecological processes. But perhaps the most important use of these space age technologies is to provide a vegetation input to climate change models. The programme was filmed mainly at the Institute of Terrestial Ecology, Monks Wood, and at the University of Sheffield.
