The Galapagos Islands are a unique archipelago in the Pacific Ocean. many of the plants and animals that now live there are found nowhere else on earth and are astonishingly unafraid of humans. Thi...s programme follows two researchers who are working there: Martin Wikelski and his work on marine iguanas, and Beatrix Schramm who studies the giant tortoise. we see the day to day details of how researchers work in the field, some of the experiments they do, and the problems that can be encountered. For example, trying to get faecal sample from a giant tortoise! All this work allows the researchers to increase our body of knowledge of these animals, which in the long term, should help us to ensure their survival.
