Commentary by Bill Mayon-White points out the importance of copper as a industrial material. Ian Cooper explains, briefly, why it is so important to recycle scrap copper. Bill Mayon-White, over film of scrap copper being processed and purified in blast furnaces and electrolytic baths, explains the recycling process once the scrap reaches the refinery. Film of two "totters" collecting scrap metal with their horse and cart. Commentary by Bill Mayon-White explains how they go about their business. Film shots of the totters taking the scrap to a scrap dealer. Shots of the copper being weighed and crushed and of other metals being sorted. The proprietor explains how his firm, Wisby Metals, got started and how it operates. Shots of individuals bringing in scrap metal for sale. Film shots of Cobury Ltd. at Hoddesdon, a large scrap metal firm which deals with large tonnage of metal. Further shots of Wisby Metals. Interviews with Trevor Labentze and Bill White. They discuss the various grades of metals handled by their firms. Ian Cooper, Trevor Labentze and Bill White discuss the price mechanism for scrap copper with particular reference to the role of the London Metal Exchange.
