Description
Anybody driving through the mountains east of Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, could be forgiven for thinking that they could see a Government space research station or something. Five white domes clu...stered on a hillside a mile off the freeway comprise the home of Robert and Lee Reines. They use only the sun and wind for all their energy needs. Here in England, in Ely, Cambridgeshire, the home of Robert and Brenda Vale is also virtually self-sufficient and this programme looks at both homes as examples of unusual design concepts. It looks at both of these set-ups in terms familiar to the student, namely, materials, construction and services related to home design. This programme is a compilation of two programmes originally dealing only with the Reines set-up in USA. After seeing the film, the student should be able to summarise the technological and social infrastructure that supports Robert and Lee's way of life. They should be able to state clearly to what extent Lee and Robert are self-sufficient. The music used is from LPs chosen by Lee Reines.
