Description
'This video shows the biology and behaviour of Hawaiian Drosophila - the so-called 'picture-wings'. It starts with the life-cycle of these flies from egg laying, through larvae and pupae stages, to... the courtship and mating behaviour of the mature adult flies. In addition, male-male and male-female interactions are illustrated, including acoustic signalling, pheromone dispersal and other methods of communication. An adaptive shift provides an example of how two species sharing the same habitat can develop different behaviour keeping them reproductively isolated. Finally a natural fungicide - a spin off from Hawaiian Drosophila research is presented. The species shown are Drosophilia planitibia, silvestris, clavisetae, heteroneura, silvarentis, heedi, nigribasis, and oahuensis.'
