Description
Ms Maggie Turner received her honorary degree on 6 April 2013 at The Barbican in London. Maggie trained as a social worker, working in a children and families team. She became a ChildLine counsell...or in 1992 and joined them fulltime in 1997. She developed the nationwide programme ChildLine in Partnership with Schools (CHIPS), which set up peer support schemes for, and run by, young people to tackle bullying behaviour in schools. In 2003 Maggie joined the charity the Diana Award as Chief Executive Officer. She strongly believes in high-lighting the inspirational contribution that children and young people are making to improve society. She has ensured that Diana Award holders are at the centre of the organisation and play a prominent role through setting up youth boards, consultation groups and conferences, and as spokespeople. She has also sat on boards and committees to promote and recognise the role that young people are playing in society at a national level. In 2010 Maggie was awarded an OBE for her services to children and young people.
