The OpenScience Lab (OSL) is the OU's online laboratory for practical science teaching that is open to all. It aims to provide an authentic experience using real data and to revolutionise the learn...ing experience of practical science, providing a mechanism for anybody, anywhere to not only learn about science but to contribute as a non-professional scientist to issues of contemporary importance. Launched in July 2013, the OSL covers the breadth of the sciences and with a range of different user experiences -- including Virtual Skiddaw: a 3D immersive fieldtrip to the Lake District as well as citizen science applications (iSpot, Treezilla, Situ8), inquiry learning tools and remotely operated equipment.
