Description
In this video, Open University researchers, Professor Claudia Eckert and Dr Charles Mbalyohere, are looking at developing energy hubs in sub-Saharan Africa so that batteries can be used to charge e...lectric vehicles in community hubs, either in suburbia or in rural environments or very remote environments. They describe how they have developed a consortium around this project with technology partners, NGOs and various governments. They share their hopes that through batteries they can give people a lot more energy independence and, of course, generate energy with a much lower carbon footprint due to the availability of sunshine in this part of Africa. This project is one of the OU’s Open Societal Challenges under the theme of Sustainability (OSCs).
