This session looks at Christmas in the context of religious festivals. What do these sorts of festivals give us, how can we celebrate some of the core values, and what happens to them when all the ...tinsel disappears? Some people complain that Christmas has lost its religious message, drowned out by capitalist consumption. Yet perhaps, the Christmas excess of food and wine shared with family and friends—as well as the exchange of gifts—provides us with a different way to think about capitalism, and allows us to reconnect with the sacred things that are important to us. Join Paul-François Tremlett to talk about what Christmas means to you.
