Charlotte Webb is a lecturer in Mathematics Education. She is passionate about her ...subject, and spent some years teaching mathematics in secondary schools, before joining the Open University in 2016. As a Maths Education lecturer, she teaches students who would like to become teachers, or who are already teachers. She has done a lot of outreach work, helping at events such as the Big Bang Fair, and she gives masterclasses to primary and secondary children (through the Royal Institution) on topic
In this introduction to basic Maths we will consider units, percentages and decimal... places. We will also introduce some basic maths problems and look at how you can use these skills in practical situations, such as converting currencies when you’re on holiday.
Visual representations are a very effective way of bringing out the meaning of data.... This session will take a look at several types of graph – bar graphs, scatterplots, pie charts and tables – which all give different representations of data. We’ll talk you through each one and how to read the data, and also how to make meaningful interpretations.
