In this session I’ll talk about my previous research on student writing. I compared Chinese and British students’ writing at undergraduate level, mainly in Engineering, Biology and Economics, a...nd talked to students and lecturers about their views on writing. It was really interesting to read and hear about what writing is like in different disciplines. I’ll end by introducing the WiSP project – what are we doing and why. There’s lots of media interest in social work when things go wrong, and writing practices are often blamed, yet little is known about how much time social workers spend writing, what types of writing they do and how the writing connects.
