Description
Jenny will be talking about the importance of good academic practice from her perspective as an Academic Conduct Officer. She will explore what is meant by the term ‘common knowledge’, how to ...judge whether something is common knowledge or not, and use examples of cases where students have had problems with acknowledging sources. Jenny will then explain the importance of referencing in assignments, so that a reader can tell what has been written by a student and what has been copied from other sources, and will demonstrate a simple way to do this. Fiona will be talking about the principles of referencing (in text citation – reference list- findability) and the elements to include in a reference. In order to demonstrate this she will be showing how to reference something not in the OU Harvard Guide (such as a gravestone) and by special request secondary referencing of AV in module material. This session is also used in (re)Fresher's and Orientation [2018].
