We will talk about the writers who have inspired us, whose work we value and wish to share with our students! We’ll start with the context of our involvement in the making of a couple of short fi...lms on “Women Writers: Voices in Transition” for A335 Literature in Transition, and say why we chose the writers we did, namely Virginia Woolf and Jeanette Winterson, and what their work means to us. We’d also like to talk more generally about why literature matters to us, what we get out of it and why we spend our days reading, and writing, books. We hope to persuade students that, as well as being of intrinsic interest, the study of literature and the skills and capabilities gained are likely to be useful to them in the world of work.
