In the Open University, a tutorial is one of the occasions where students can actually come together and engage in a shared learning experience. Most students, however experienced they are in OU le...arning techniques, welcome the opportunity to meet with their tutor, and with other OU students. The Open University places great emphasis on active learning. Effective learners are able to process ideas, apply concepts and solve problems rather than receiving learning material passively. Tutorials provide an important opportunity for you to do this. This session will give you an opportunity to discuss face-to-face and online tutorials. You’ll look into how you can work with your tutor to create and facilitate a learning environment in which you can engage actively and purposefully with your module materials. It will also give you an opportunity to consider what it is realistic to expect from your tutor and how the student/tutor relationship fits into your broader degree studies.
