Description
For the past 12 years Mike and Rob have presented their talk The Magic of Oxygen at science festivals, schools, colleges and museums across the UK and Ireland, with well over 100 shows. The most re...cent being the Belfast Science Festival, Marlborough Science Fair, last summer at the Royal Institution in London, and they are regulars at Royal Society of Chemistry outreach events. The Magic of Oxygen is all about the weird and wonderful properties of gases and one of the most important - oxygen. There are usually plenty of flashes and bangs along the way as Mike and Rob explain why oxygen is so important. Some of the chemistry of oxygen (and other gases) is demonstrated, together with a look at how this chemistry may be used to save lives. The talk also takes a light-hearted look at the work of scientists such as Boyle, Newton and Priestley, with some of their experiments being recreated in unusual ways. In this session Mike and Rob will be giving you a flavour of the talk with some selected demonstrations and a look at the background science.
