Description
The Suffolk strangler, Dr death, the Yorkshire ripper, the angel of death, the moors murderers, the bus stop stalker and rather bizarrely, the criminology student who became a crossbow cannibal. Th...ese are all household names that many of us will have heard before, if not in the national press then in crime dramas that explore how such criminals can co-exist in societies without suspicion. But what is it about serial killing that ignites our curiosity and fuels uncontrollable fear? The very fear that makes us shudder when walking alone on a dark night? Are our fears founded, or are they perpetuated by media frenzy? What are the risk factors for serial killers, can we really spot a serial killer in the making? And how, should our criminal justice system punish those for whom many of us would protest about sharing our postcodes with? Does this abstract sound interesting to you? Does it fuel your curiosity? Or maybe you want to understand more about the processes involved in the making and breaking of serial killers? If that is the case then why not participate in our student led presentation. Help us to understand your views and complete our short and anonymous survey and join Rachel MacLeod, Andy Perratt and Professor Frederick Toates at 13:30 on Thursday 18th June 2015 to discuss key themes surrounding the mystery of serial killing.
