Library Building Update and Borrowing Options

The Front of House Enquiries desk, which has been in operation on the ground floor of the Library building for over 8 months, has proved to be a welcome asset – it now answers more questions in person than on the phone. With this in mind, we thought we’d provide an update on the borrowing and study space options that are available from the Library:

  • There is now a self-service machine on the first floor of the Library to enable those visiting the building to check out any books they’d like to take home with them.
  • The Print Book Request service allows you to place requests to borrow print books held at Walton Hall Campus. Requesters who live in or near Milton Keynes can collect their requested items from the lockers outside the Betty Boothroyd building, with postal loans available for those who live further away.
  • Study spaces are available on the ground, first and second floors. Note that ground and second floor study spaces are for collaborative (non-quiet) study, whereas study spaces on the first floor are for quiet study only.
  • The Postgraduate common room, located on the ground floor of the Library building, is open for use by postgraduate students 24/7. Note that you’ll need to swipe your ID card for entry.
  • OU students and staff can apply to visit other university libraries via the SCONUL Access scheme. Note that it may take up to 21 working days to process your application.

Remember that the OU Library’s extensive online resources (such as databases, journals, and eBooks) and the Helpdesk are available to OU students and staff 24/7.
