The scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) plays a crucial role in underpinning The Open University’s expertise in online, open and distance learning and its vision of life-changing learning that enriches society.

‘Scholarship’ is understood here as practitioner-led pedagogical research that informs evidence-based, student-responsive, inclusive and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.  

SoTL at The Open University is coordinated by a network of four discipline-based Centres for Scholarship and Innovation that work in partnership with each other and across all four nations of the UK.
