Vital skills for the workplace can be gained from our wide variety of courses and programmes. We also provide free resources. With accessible, flexible Open University study, refresh your existing skills or develop new ones.

Upskilling programmes and resources

You’ll find an overview of what we offer here. This includes:

  • Funding of up to £5,000 for small and medium-sized enterprises in Scotland to access OU training for their workers
  • Access to our free OpenLearn courses on Skill Development Scotland’s My World of Work website
  • A dedicated skills portal for workers facing redundancy and furlough 
  • Fully-funded digital skills development programme for unemployed people, or those on low incomes through Skills Development Scotland’s Digital Start Fund

With our microcredentials courses you can gain specialist knowledge and skills to help advance your career, through 10-12 weeks of online study.

Funding

Many of our upskilling opportunities offer fully-funded places. OU students also benefit from a grant scheme, which covers course fees for eligible students.
