Design Star Methods Day

For the last two years we’ve hosted a research methods day for the AHRC funded Centre for Doctoral Training  ‘Design Star‘. This year we focused on exploring the relationship between ontologies, epistemologies and methodologies in our own research  … through the making of personal ‘thinking positions’ pyramids and placing them on a landscape describing different paradigms of approaching research, knowledge and methods. Some great conversations had by all across the day. A particular thanks should go to two great doctoral presentations from the OU’s Dr Byron Qually (skyping in from Cape Town) presenting work on ‘The transdisciplinary imperative: overstepping boundaries and crossing s/words’ from his recent PhD; and Brighton University’s Giovanni Marmont, there in person, talking about his perceptions of ‘Methodological Ensembles’.
