On 16 February the OU’s FutureLearn registered its one-millionth learner. More than 200 free courses are now available (run in conjunction with 44 partners from UK and international universities and institutions) and the number is steadily rising. Professor Alan Bassindale, Chair of the FutureLearn Board, commented, 'It's incredible to think that the first courses went live just 15 months ago, and that in that short time so many people across the world have benefited.'

Registration for one of the latest MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), Inequalities in Personal Finance: the Baby Boom Legacy, is now live. Led by IKD members Dr Jerome De Henau and Jonquil Lowe, the free course will start on 23 March and can be enjoyed by anyone interested in social issues.

Participants will explore the growing concerns surrounding rising inequalities in developed countries. Over four weeks (12 hours in total), you’ll be able to scrutinise claims that the baby boomer generation has had it all, in terms of pension deals and affordable houses, while social and political changes have left younger generations struggling to find security.

You’ll also examine the causes and implications of the growing economic inequalities and what can be done about them by individuals, communities and governments, and explore the best ways to achieve a more equal world.

Read more and register.
