New TV series unlocks the Languages of Ulster

A fascinating, new three-part documentary series, co-produced by The Open University and BBC Two Northern Ireland was broadcast in November. It explored Ulster’s unique linguistic traditions – Irish Gaelic, northern Hiberno English and Ulster-Scots – and the relationship between them.

Award-winning author, Colm Tóibín, joins 258 students for degree ceremony in Belfast

Author and academic Colm Tóibín was honoured by The Open University (OU) with the award of Doctor of the University at a ceremony in Belfast’s Waterfront Hall on Friday 20 October. Professor Tóibín had his award conferred alongside 258 graduates – of all ages and backgrounds and from a spectrum of careers – as well as fellow honorary graduate Professor Martin Bradley.

OU brings astronomical telescopes to students in their home

The OU Faculty of STEM is celebrating the inauguration of its remotely-controlled robotic telescopes, which will bring astronomy and space science to life for students whenever and wherever they are in the world.
