Scholarship at The Open University

Following the adoption of a university-wide Scholarship Plan in October 2018, the creation of Scholarship and Innovation Centres in each of the faculties, and an increased focus on evidencing excellence in teaching and learning, scholarship is high on the agenda within the higher education landscape both nationally and internationally.

The Scholarship Plan will support a university-wide unified approach to scholarship that will accelerate and increase the impact of the University's excellence in scholarship applied across all disciplines for the benefit of OU students. We are delighted to be working closely with our centre colleagues from across the University –

FASSTEST – Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Scholarship and Innovation Centre (Blog)

PRAXIS – Faculty of Wellbeing, Education and Language Studies Scholarship and Innovation Centre

SCiLAB – Faculty of Business and Law Centre for Innovation in Legal and Business Education (intranet only)

LATIS - Learning And Teaching Innovation and Scholarship ran from September 2018 until July 2020 (intranet only)

Students as Partners in scholarship

A key part of our work is the active involvement of students within scholarship, not only as research participants, but as members of project teams and in a consultative capacity for the centre. Most of our projects benefit significantly from very close involvement with students and we are always interested in linking up project teams with students who can bring their experience as learners to bear on the project design and execution. Therefore, if you would like to register your interest as being involved with an eSTEeM project, please complete our Student Register Form and return it to We will keep your details on file and be back in touch when a suitable opportunity arises.

Please also feel free to visit our student facing website eSTEeM & Co which is a place for anyone interested in STEM scholarship to connect and collaborate. You will need to sign in using your OU credentials to access the site.
