With AI predicted to affect up to 40 per cent of global employment, The Open University hosts its first major online event for young people thinking about their future.
Real Futures Live as the name suggests is a live online event designed to help younger audiences explore how technology is reshaping careers, the skills employers are looking for, and how learning is evolving in response.
The event, on June 25, is aimed primarily at 18–30-year-olds who are thinking about their future and navigating an increasingly fast-changing world.
From AI and digital skills to careers, creativity and opportunity, the event brings together voices from technology, education and digital culture to unpack what’s changing and what it means for young people.
Hosted by Vee Kativhu, Real Futures Live features short, fast-paced sessions, live audience interaction and conversations designed for a digital-first generation. It features a full line-up of presenters from across the tech, education, business leadership sectors.
The format is designed to be fast-paced and engaging, with short 10-minute talks, interactive audience activities led by Dr Vee, and a series of OU proof-point showcases demonstrating how the University is already helping shape the future of learning. These include OpenLearn, Lifelong Learning, Scribe, OU Analyse, the Student Facing Dashboard and the OU XR Studios.

The event follows the launch last month of ‘The Future of Learning: Skills, Technology and Innovation in a Changing World’, a report setting out how education can positively respond to rapid technological change, the transition to a net-zero economy and evolving skills needs, while widening access and opportunity.
The report shows how learning, work and participation in society are being reshaped by global forces, including artificial intelligence and sustainability imperatives.
