Description
What is thought of as 'real' is the result of what is experienced and the interpretation given to that experience by oneself. Such interpretation rests on the use of language. In the class teacher ...and pupil may thus construct 'different realities'. This process is looked at by Geoffrey Esland through interviews with Douglas Barnes and Harold Rosen, the two main contributors of the book published by Penguin (1969) called 'Language, the Learner and the School'. The material in this programme is the first part of a trilogy comprising radio programmes 1, 2 and 5.
