Description
This programme is concerned with the early stages of the Reformation movement in England and deals in particular with the part played by Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury. Jasper Ridley, aut...hor of a standard biography of Cranmer, discusses some aspects of the reformer's life, achievements and influence in answer to questions put to him by Nuala O'Faolain. He makes an estimate of Cranmer's character, about which there has been much controversy, and offers an interesting explanation on the motives that led him to a martyr's death after previous recantations. The talk is introduced by Dr. Francis Clark.
