Description
In this fourth radio programme of the general indroductory section of the course Professor Marwick looks back on some major questions and apparent divergences of view among different contributors, ...and invites the views of Professor Hale. Together they examine the implications of certain key passages in the correspondence text, and actual quotations from the recordings of both radio and television programmes. In the conclusions which they reach they stress the importance of precision in weighing historical evidence, and the folly of regarding historians as "engaged in gladiatorial combat" with each other if they write from different points of view.
