Soon after Jennie’s defeat in 1931, she launched herself into a series of lectures and visits abroad. Archive materials from this period include advertisements for lectures in the States, newspaper clippings and correspondence.

Following a visit to Russia, Jennie lectured in the USA about Russian and Indian issues, as well as British History and Politics. She became involved in the socialist cause in America and was so well received that she extended her visit there in 1931. On this page you can see a selection of newspaper clippings featuring Jennie’s lecture tours of the USA.

As well as lecturing and campaigning for seats in the House of Commons, during the period 1931-1945, Jennie continued to write for newspapers and magazines regarding socialist issues and the politics of the day. Jennie and her husband Nye Bevan were involved in setting up the Tribune paper in 1937. The Tribune fought fascism and promoted socialist ideals and runs to this day.

Several of Jennie’s articles for the paper are preserved in the archive collection. Jennie continued to have an involvement with the Tribune until the 1980s and within the collection are a number of files regarding the administration of the paper.
