The Land of Engagement and Belonging

Where is the Land of Engagement and Belonging, and how do students reach the Bay of Contentment? These special places form part of our unique Open Programme Student Journey, where the Sea of TMAs (Tutor-Marked Assignments) can prove to be a challenge but where the Mountains of Support are always visible on the horizon.

We understand the importance of community for our Open qualification students, building a sense of belonging to the University while studying across a range of subjects. This visual was co-created with students sharing the story of community through the use of a map as a metaphor.

To find out more about this unique co-created map read our Open Programme blog on the topic “Sailing the choppy seas” into the Fourth Industrial Revolution

Badged Open Course (BOC)

To support students to express the value of their learning on an Open qualification, the Open Programme team produced an OpenLearn course titled ‘Multidisciplinary study: the value and benefits’. This Badged Open Course (BOC) takes students through the value of learning across multiple subjects, the skills and approaches that can be transferred into the workplace and even introduces the concept of ‘multipotentiality'.
