Description
Carál Ní Chuilín attended school in Belfast , left at 18, went to the Conway Mill Education Centre and gained A Levels in Politics and Economics. Caral was imprisoned in Maghaberry in 1989 and studied GCSE History before starting the Open University Foundation course in Social Sciences , D103, in 1992. She then studied OU courses in Women’s Studies(U207) and Social Policy (D211). After her release in 1995 she was involved in setting up the Republican ex-prisoners organisation Coiste na nIarchimi and at the same time studied an Open University postgraduate course B789, Managing Voluntary and Non Profit Organisations. Caral was... elected as Sinn Fein Member for the Legislative Assembly for North Belfast in 2007 , was Chief Whip for Sinn Fein from 2007-2011 and was then Minister for the Department for Culture, Arts and Leisure from 2011-2016.
