Description
Séanna Walsh attended St Patricks Grammar School in Belfast and left with three O Levels. He was imprisoned at 16 in the Cages (Compounds of the Maze and Long Kesh Prison) from 1973-1976 where he studied Irish. He was imprisoned in the H Blocks in February 1977 joined the Blanket Protest and was in charge of the Republican prisoners in the H Blocks from October 1981-March 1983. In that role Séanna pushed for access to education. He was released in 1984 imprisoned again in 1988 and in the H Blocks studied Technology Social Science and French courses with The Open University from 1991 until his release in 1998. He graduated with an honour...s Degree in 1999. He appeared on television screens in July 2005 announcing the formal end to the IRA Military Campaign. He worked for Sinn Féin as part of the backup team following the Good Friday Agreement negotiations and at the time of interview in 2011 was working as Outreach and Legacy Officer for Coiste na nIarchimí.  He was selected as a Sinn Féin Councillor on Belfast City Council in 2015.
