Description
John Bright was a Quaker and a Liberal (later Liberal Unionist) politician who held several ministerial posts during his career including President of the Board of Trade and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster. He co-founded the Anti-Corn Law League which aimed to abolish the Corn Laws. He opposed the Crimean War and Home Rule for Ireland. Bright was regarded as one of the nineteenth century's greatest parliamentary orators.
