Description
Emily Faithfull was an English publisher and activist for the rights of working women. She was a member of the Langham Place Circle, a group of middle-class women who campaigned to improve conditions for women's education and employment across all classes. In 1860 Faithfull set up The Victoria Press, a printing company for women. It published the English Woman's Journal which dealt with female employment and equality issues. Faithfull was appointed 'printer and publisher in ordinary to Queen Victoria' and in 1863 began the long running Victoria Magazine. She also lectured on women's issues in both England and the United States.
