Description
Sir John Gilbert was an English artist and illustrator. He is best known for the illustrations and wood-engravings he produced for the Illustrated London News magazine. He also contributed to Punch magazine and The London Journal. Gilbert illustrated many books and exhibited around 400 paintings in both oil and watercolour. In 1871 he was made president of the Royal Watercolour Society.
