Description
Samuel Gurney was a banker and a politician who served as an independent Liberal MP for 11 years. He was also Chairman of the London and Provincial District Telegraph Company, President of the National Association for the relief of British Miners and co-founder of the Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association which provided free clean drinking water in London for the public and their animals. Gurney was a nephew of social and prison reformer Elizabeth Fry.
