Josiah Gilbert Holland was an American novelist and poet. He also co-founded and edited Scribners Monthly magazine and wrote hymn lyrics. He hoped to become a physician but began writing and then became the editor of the Springfield Republican newspaper. His published novels were popular during the late nineteenth century. Holland also wrote a biography of Abraham Lincoln after his assassination.
