Geraldine Endsor Jewsbury was an English novelist and book reviewer. Her writing frequently questioned the roles of the Victorian wife and mother. She is believed to have written over 2000 literary reviews, many for the 'Athenaeum'. She also wrote 17 short stories for Dickens' 'Household Words' magazine. Jewsbury never married but developed many close friendships within literary society, including Charles Kingsley and George Henry Lewes. Her most significant relationship was with the Scottish writer Jane Carlyle.
