Description
Albert Richard Smith was an English author and traveller. He contributed to 'Punch' and 'Miscellany' magazine and wrote several novels and plays which were very popular. He organised Charles Dickens' reading tour in 1858. Smith travelled a great deal and in 1851 he climbed Mont Blanc. He wrote a book about his experience called 'The Story of Mont Blanc' and created an exhibition and show which was performed to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1854. This helped to make mountaineering popular in the mid-nineteenth century.
