Description
Kevin Warner's professional background is in teaching. During the 1970s he taught both in schools and in adult education across Ireland and England. From 1979 to 2009 he was employed by the Department of Justice as National Co-ordinator of Education in the prison system in the Republic of Ireland. His job was to develop provision to meet the educational needs of those in prison in partnership with educational bodies from the community. As part of this larger provision Open University courses were made available in all prisons in the Republic of Ireland from 1985 and Kevin liaised with The Open University in relation to that provision until... early 2009. He chaired the Council of Europe Expert Group that produced the report Education in Prison (1990) and he was founding Chairperson of the European Prison Education Association from 1991-1996.
