Jenny Meegan moved from England to Belfast in 1969. She completed her PhD at Queen’s University in Environmental Geography and was a Schools Community Worker in the Greater Shankill area from 1972-74. Jenny was an Associate Lecturer with The Open University in the Compounds and H Blocks of the Maze and Long Kesh Prison Armagh Gaol Maghaberry and Magilligan Prisons and the Young Offenders Centre at Hydebank Wood between 1983 and 2000.   She worked from 1985-1997 as Assistant to the Senior Counsellor responsible for prison education Diana Purcell and also had responsibility until 2000 for the academic counselling of new and continuing So...cial Sciences and Arts students in the prisons.  Jenny has tutored on Level One Social Sciences courses since 1983 and Geography courses since 1985 and also on the foundation module for the Masters in Social Science.  She worked as Faculty Coordinator for Social Sciences in Ireland from 2007. Jenny founded The Open University Ireland Oral History Project with John D’Arcy in 2010. In 2018 the project became the ‘Time to think’ Project which she co-leads with Philip O’Sullivan and Gabi Kent. Jenny has also been one of the interviewers for the Project.
