Description
Joanna McMinn was an Associate Lecturer with The Open University between 1981 and 1992 teaching Sociolinguistics from 1981-1983 and Women’s Studies from 1983-1992. She was Assistant Staff Tutor in Educational Studies 1981-1983. Joanna tutored Open University courses in Women’s Studies in the H Blocks of the Maze and Long Kesh Prison Maghaberry and Portlaoise Prisons between 1986 and 1992. She also taught evening classes in Women’s Studies in the Republican Wings of the H Blocks and in Maghaberry Women’s Prison and Portlaoise Prison. Joanna completed her PhD in 2000 on Women’s Education and Social Justice at University College Dub...lin (UCD). She worked as Director of the National Women’s Council of Ireland from 2001 to 2009 and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by The Open University in 2010 for her work in the field of Women’s Education in Ireland. Joanna conducted interviews with former Open University students for the ‘Time to Think’ Archive.
