Description
Jackie McMullan attended St Mary’s Grammar School in Belfast and left aged sixteen with O Levels. He was imprisoned in the H Blocks (the Maze and Long Kesh prison) in 1976 and was on the Blanket Protest and Hunger Strike. He started studying Social Sciences with The Open University in 1985 continued studying after his release in 1992 and graduated with an Honours Degree in 1985. He helped to set up and worked for Coiste na nIarchimí the co-ordinating body for Republican ex-prisoners and their families providing services to groups and projects throughout Ireland. Jackie studied for a Diploma in the Irish Language at the University of Uls...ter and at the time of interview in 2011 was Special Advisor for the Minister of Education at the Assembly in Stormont.
