Description
Gerard Murray attended St Mary’s Grammar School Belfast. He left in 1972 at age fourteen started an apprenticeship and attended the Technical College. He was imprisoned in Crumlin Road Gaol in 1979 where he studied O level English. He was transferred to Long Kesh (the H Blocks of the Maze and Long Kesh prison) in 1981. He enrolled for a course in Social Sciences with The Open University in 1982 but was not able to complete it due to being moved to Magilligan Prison which had no educational facilities at that time. At the time of interview in 2012 Gerard was involved in voluntary work with the Republican Socialist Movement in Belfast
